The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had extended the last date of MBA admission from July 31 to August 10. The last date of seat cancellation and fee refund was extended to August 5. The AICTE has also extended the late date of admission against vacancies from August 31 to September 15. However, many MBA colleges are still inviting applications and conducting admissions online. Classes at top MBA colleges such as IIMs, IIFT, FMS, etc have started for the 2020 batch.

The AICTE issued a notice asking the colleges to not wait for the conduct of entrance exams and admit students on merit basis. The decision has been made keeping in mind the COVID-19 situation in the country because of which many state level entrance exams were deferred until October.

The first name that comes to one’s mind viz a top MBA colleges in India is the Indian Institutes of Management or IIMs. The top ranked MBA institute has 20 campuses and the five top – IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode – are the most sought after. Every year over 2 lakh MBA aspirants appear in CAT – the common entrance test conducted by the IIM to pursue MBA/PGDM/PGP programmes. The admission procedure of the IIMs includes CAT exam and GD/PI.

IIM Admission Process

The CAT exam is conducted at over 4000 centres across 156 cities in India in the last week of November or first week of December. The result is declared in January. Once the CAT result is declared, the 20 IIMs screen the test takers on the basis of their CAT score and academic record. A category-wise CAT cut off percentile is fixed for each IIM for shortlisting candidates.
