SIU was established under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, in the year 2002, It was given “Deemed to be University” status by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2002 also re-accredited by NAAC with Grade ‘A’ and CGPA of 3.58 on a four point scale. Symbiosis International (Deemed University) is nestled on a beautiful 300 acre campus, the Symbiosis Knowledge Village, on the outskirts of the city of Pune in Maharashtra, India.

Symbiosis’s journey began at the S. B. Road Campus in 1971. Located in one of the busiest parts of Pune, this campus is a well-known landmark in Pune. Since 2007, candidates aspiring to join MBA programs offered by institutes of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) have to take the common, mandatory Symbiosis National Aptitude (SNAP) Test.
