Difference between the M.A.T and the CAT? And which one is easier? Also which one has more advantages?

( Direct MBA Admission in Top Colleges through MAT )

This is a long one to answer, but we will give it a try. M.A.T and CAT are really different to their core. The only comparison between these two is that on cracking any one of these, will end up with an M.B.A or PGDM. Let us précis the variances in the following points. ( Direct MBA Admission in Top Colleges through MAT )

  • Paper Pattern – The M.A.T paper has 200 questions divided in 5 sections with 40 questions each, whereas the CAT paper has 100 questions divided in 3 sections of 34, 32 and 34 questions. M.A.T has a section called India and Global Environment which is based on GK. However CAT doesn’t have a GK section unlike some other management exams. M.A.T has a negative marking of – 0.25 marks and CAT as a negative marking of – 0.33 marks per question.
  • Test Taking Time – In CAT one gets an hour for each section and the whole exam is of 3 hours. In M.A.T one gets 150 minutes (2 hours 30 mins) for answering the 200 questions. ( Direct MBA Admission in Top Colleges through MAT )
  • Paper toughness – The M.A.T paper is really easy compared to CAT. The questions are easier and also it’s easier to score high percentiles as the test taking lot is not as serious (By serious I mean some of them CAT takers give 200 or so mocks, which is unbelievable) as the ones taking CAT. ( Direct MBA Admission in Top Colleges through MAT )
  • Test Frequency –A.T happens 4 times every year while CAT only happens once a year. So one has a high probability of cracking M.A.T than CAT going just by this. ( Direct MBA Admission in Top Colleges through MAT )

I guess by the answers it’s evident that M.A.T is easier than CAT. And judging just by the type of B school’s taking part in these exams and the return on investment of the B schools taking entrance based on these exams, we can say that CAT has an advantage over M.A.T as CAT gives you a stairway to the world of IIMs. CAT has the country’s best B schools taking admissions thru its scores, soI would say CAT is more advantageous than M.A.T in this regard, but surely tougher.

M.B.A entrance exams are many in India. Common Admission Test (CAT) and Management Aptitude Test (M.A.T) are the two national level M.B.A entrance exams.CAT is conducted for entrance to higher tier B-schools in India including IIM’s and M.A.T used by next tier of B-schools for entrance.
