SIBM is known for its rigorous selection procedure. This year too, the process was true to its tradition.

The uncertainty of the CAT this year had made management aspirants target the SNAP this year more seriously compared to the earlier years. The multiple choice exam wasn’t a difficult one; cut-offs went rather high for a call. The selection process that followed included a Group Discussion (GD), Group Task and a Personal Interview (PI).

Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Bengaluru was established in 2008 as a constituent of Symbiosis International University with the aim of imparting world-class education to students and transforming them into top notch leaders of the corporate world. At SIBM-B, eminent faculty from across the country, holistic learning-focussed pedagogy, passion-driven students and world-class facilities meet the epicentre of knowledge to create the future business leaders.

Group Discussion

On the day of my interview, I found the atmosphere at the SIBM campus a mixture of tension, uncertainty, and even serenity. However, the efficient coordination by student managers at the venue made the candidates comfortable. The panel was pleasantly friendly with us from the moment we entered the hall and requested us to be at ease during the GD and not to make the GD a fish market situation. We were divided into groups. The process began with a GD which was a case study. The case study was based on an imaginary situation about a company’s marketing and financial problems.

Group Task

The group tasks were similar to management games, ranging from games that included the task of making 12 people stand on two bricks without any of their feet touching the ground, or making a plinth out of cardboard and straw, strong enough to sustain the weight of the entire group. These tasks probably evaluated our communication skills, team spirit, innovativeness, and risk appetite. Along with the Group Task, we also underwent a Psychometric Test which had questions aimed at evaluating our emotional quotient and honesty.
